Modern Outdoor Garden Wedding | Inspired by California
This incredible recent garden wedding was inspired by the beauty of its California location, and as you’ll see from the photos, every detail was the epitome of modern, organic wedding style.
Because of COVID, my lovely clients Kathryn and Nerses made the call to transition their large 500 person wedding to a smaller, intimate, outdoor wedding at the home of Kathryn’s parents. The safety of everyone involved was our top priority, but that didn’t mean we had to sacrifice style, beauty or meaning when designing the event! (Check out my post, 5 Ways To Make a Big Impact With a Micro Event for more small wedding ideas!)
Kathryn's family home has clean, sculptural lines and is surrounded by the San Gabriel Mountains. We took inspiration from the home’s modern architecture as well as the existing natural landscape, and complimented them both with a soft color palette of butter yellows, greens, browns and blues.
The entire reception took place outside so we filled the the garden with special details to transform it from a yard into a full event experience. Warm, caramel brown leather lounge furniture created relaxed seating vignettes throughout the space. Edison cafe lights and small twinkle lights were strung through the 200-year old oak trees, which created a glowing canopy above the dramatic 81-foot long dining table. Light wood was chosen for the farm table and dining chairs, and the chic place settings were a combination of blue, gold and clear glass.
I designed loose, organic floral centerpieces in varying sizes to run down the center of the long table, and at each place setting was a delicate hand-tied nosegay that sat on top of a linen napkin, place card and dinner menu. Centered behind the couple’s seats we placed a large floral arch that had been used during the wedding ceremony. It was the perfect way to make the most of a large scale arrangement and to add a truly breathtaking detail to an intimate “backyard“ wedding.
It was a special, and absolutely gorgeous wedding, and I just love the atmosphere we created for Kathyrn, Nersus and their loved ones.
